State of Rhode Island Grants: $5,000 Per Inventor through May 1

The Invention Incentive is a State of Rhode Island reimbursement grant that covers up to $5,000 of application filing fees incurred when filing patents. The deadline for applying is May 1, 2026 at 5 PM.
Eligible expenses:
Services provided by a USPTO registered patent practitioner located in the state of Rhode Island, plus USPTO application fees, for provisional or nonprovisional patent applications.
Who is eligible?
- Inventors residing in Rhode Island; or
- Small business (500 or less employees) incorporated in Rhode Island, with at least 51% of employees located in Rhode Island
Inventors must show proof of Rhode Island residency (Utility bill, property-tax bill, lease or mortgage statement). Small businesses must show proof of incorporation in Rhode Island (RI Secretary of State registration documentation).
Application Period: April 7, 2026 – May 1, 2026 5:00 PM EST.
