There are no “international” patents. To protect intellectual property in other countries, we file foreign patent applications, but in certain jurisdictions that cover those countries, as well as individual countries. There is an international application that leads to patents in specific countries, but there is no single patent or application that protects an invention globally.
The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has a workshop for that. Its international patent legal administration experts will discuss considerations for filing abroad on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025 from 2 — 3 pm ET. The discussion will cover the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) and the use of the Paris Convention for non-PCT countries.
